For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Summary

Voxelotor inhibits CYP3A4 in vitro and can increase exposure to sensitive substrates. Escitalopram is only partly metabolized by CYP3A4, with CYP2C19 playing a larger role, so the effect is probably small. A modest increase in escitalopram levels could add dose-related adverse effects.

What this interaction means in plain words

Escitalopram and Voxelotor have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Escitalopram belongs to Central Nervous System; Voxelotor belongs to Miscellaneous.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Voxelotor inhibition of CYP3A4 may slightly reduce one pathway of escitalopram clearance.

What to do
