Summary

Corticosteroids combined with NSAIDs raise the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding. Fludrocortisone is primarily mineralocorticoid, so the GI risk is lower than with glucocorticoids, but fluid retention may also counter the NSAID effect on blood pressure.

What this interaction means in plain words

Fludrocortisone and Meloxicam can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Fludrocortisone belongs to Endocrine; Meloxicam belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive mucosal injury from NSAID prostaglandin inhibition and corticosteroid effects, plus additive sodium and fluid retention.

What to do

Use the lowest effective meloxicam dose and consider gastroprotection in at-risk patients. Monitor blood pressure, edema and electrolytes.
