Summary
Growth hormone inhibits 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1, reducing conversion of cortisone to active cortisol. Patients with adrenal insufficiency may therefore need higher glucocorticoid replacement after starting somapacitan, and excess glucocorticoid can blunt growth response. Fludrocortisone has mainly mineralocorticoid effect, so the impact is mostly relevant to concurrent hydrocortisone or cortisone.
What this interaction means in plain words
Fludrocortisone and Somapacitan can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Fludrocortisone belongs to Endocrine; Somapacitan belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Growth hormone inhibition of 11-beta-HSD1 lowers cortisol regeneration, and glucocorticoids oppose growth-promoting effects.
What to do
Reassess glucocorticoid replacement after starting somapacitan and adjust doses clinically; monitor growth and adrenal status.
What to ask your pharmacist
