Summary

Both formoterol and venlafaxine can prolong the QTc interval, and beta2-agonists may also cause hypokalemia and tachycardia. Combined use may add to the risk of ventricular arrhythmia, especially with high doses or other risk factors.

What this interaction means in plain words

Formoterol-mometasone and Venlafaxine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Formoterol-mometasone belongs to Respiratory; Venlafaxine belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive QT prolongation, with beta2-agonist-induced hypokalemia and sympathetic stimulation increasing arrhythmia susceptibility.

What to do

Use the lowest effective doses and correct potassium and magnesium abnormalities. Obtain an ECG in patients with cardiac disease or other QT-prolonging drugs.

What to ask your pharmacist
