Summary

Lumefantrine is a CYP3A4 substrate and has not been shown to be a clinically relevant inducer, so a meaningful fall in nicardipine levels is not expected. Nicardipine may mildly increase lumefantrine exposure, and lumefantrine prolongs the QT interval, but nicardipine is not known to add QT risk.

What this interaction means in plain words

Lumefantrine and Nicardipine have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

No established mechanism for reduced nicardipine effect; any change would reflect minor CYP3A4 competition.

What to do

No routine adjustment is needed. Monitor blood pressure and treatment response during the antimalarial course.
