Summary

Venlafaxine is a weak CYP2D6 inhibitor and may modestly raise nebivolol levels, mainly in extensive metabolizers. This may cause more bradycardia or hypotension, although the effect is usually small. Venlafaxine can also raise blood pressure, which may partly oppose nebivolol.

What this interaction means in plain words

Nebivolol and Venlafaxine have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Nebivolol belongs to Cardiovascular; Venlafaxine belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Weak inhibition of CYP2D6-mediated nebivolol metabolism by venlafaxine.

What to do

No routine dose change is needed. Monitor heart rate and blood pressure after starting or stopping venlafaxine.
