Summary

NSAIDs may increase the CNS excitatory and seizure-provoking potential of fluoroquinolones. The risk is greatest in patients with epilepsy, CNS disease, renal impairment or on high fluoroquinolone doses.

What this interaction means in plain words

Ofloxacin and Tolmetin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Ofloxacin belongs to Anti Bacterial; Tolmetin belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Fluoroquinolones antagonize GABA-A receptors and NSAIDs may potentiate this effect.

What to do

Avoid the combination in patients with seizure history or lowered seizure threshold; otherwise watch for CNS symptoms and use the lowest effective doses.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
