Summary
Tesamorelin increases growth hormone and IGF-1, which may inhibit 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1. This can reduce conversion of cortisone and prednisone to active forms, decreasing glucocorticoid effect.
What this interaction means in plain words
Prednisone and Tesamorelin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Growth hormone axis activation inhibits 11β-HSD1, reducing activation of prednisone to prednisolone.
What to do
Monitor for reduced steroid effect and signs of adrenal insufficiency in patients on replacement. Increase the prednisone dose if needed.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
