For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Summary

Vericiguat stimulates soluble guanylate cyclase and sildenafil blocks cGMP breakdown, so together they may cause additive hypotension. Concurrent use with PDE5 inhibitors is not recommended in labeling.

What this interaction means in plain words

Sildenafil and Vericiguat are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Sildenafil belongs to Genitourinary; Vericiguat belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Increased cGMP production from soluble guanylate cyclase stimulation combined with reduced cGMP degradation by PDE5 inhibition leads to additive vasodilation.

What to do

Avoid concurrent use of sildenafil and vericiguat. Choose an alternative for erectile dysfunction or pulmonary hypertension while on vericiguat.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Is there an alternative to one of these two medicines for me?
  • If both are essential, who is monitoring me and how often?
  • Which symptoms mean I should stop and seek help straight away?
