Summary

Growth hormone inhibits 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1, which can reduce conversion of cortisone to active cortisol and unmask adrenal insufficiency. Supraphysiologic glucocorticoid doses can also blunt the growth-promoting effect of growth hormone.

What this interaction means in plain words

Somapacitan and Triamcinolone can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Somapacitan belongs to Endocrine; Triamcinolone belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Growth hormone inhibition of 11-beta-HSD-1 and pharmacodynamic antagonism of growth effects by glucocorticoids.

What to do

Monitor growth response and adjust the somapacitan dose as needed, using the lowest effective glucocorticoid dose. In patients on glucocorticoid replacement, reassess the dose after starting growth hormone.
