Summary
Thioridazine causes marked, dose-related QTc prolongation and has a boxed warning for torsades de pointes. Adding telavancin may further increase the risk of fatal arrhythmia.
What this interaction means in plain words
Telavancin and Thioridazine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Telavancin belongs to Anti Bacterial; Thioridazine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive prolongation of ventricular repolarization on a background of marked QT effect from thioridazine.
What to do
Avoid co-administration and select a non-QT-prolonging antibiotic. If thioridazine cannot be stopped, use an alternative antibacterial.
