Indications

Mécanisme d'action

Fourth-generation cephalosporin; has gram-negative coverage comparable to ceftazidime but better gram-positive coverage (comparable to ceftriaxone); is zwitterion and rapidly penetrates gram-negative cells; is best beta-lactam for IM administration; has poor capacity to cross blood-brain barrier and thus is not used for treatment of meningitis

Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)

1-4 g IV every 12 hours.

Résumé de la notice pour la première ligne de posologie uniquement ; les sections complètes sur la posologie figurent dans l'application.

Grossesse et allaitement

Grossesse
Unknown No human data; animal studies showed no harm. Product labels say safety in pregnancy is not established and it must not be used in pregnancy. Cephalosporins as a class have not shown birth-defect risk; prefer a better-studied cephalosporin.
Allaitement
Safe Passes into milk; labels advise stopping breastfeeding or the drug. No infant data. e-lactancia: likely compatible, as cephalosporins reach milk in insignificant amounts; prefer a better-studied cephalosporin, especially with a newborn or preterm infant.

Effets indésirables signalés

  • Rash
  • Positive Coombs test result without hemolysis
  • Elevated alanine aminotransferase
  • Hypophosphatemia

Précautions particulières

  • If CrCl <60 mL/min, adjust dosage to compensate for slower renal elimination rate
  • Caution warranted with history of previous immediate hypersensitivity reactions to cefpirome, cephalosporins, penicillins, or other drugs
  • Prescribing drug in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection or a prophylactic indication is unlikely to provide benefit to patient

Informez votre pharmacien ou votre médecin en cas de grossesse ou d'allaitement, de maladie rénale ou hépatique, d'allergies, ainsi que de tout autre médicament ou complément que vous prenez.
