Résumé
The legacy premise that canagliflozin raises serum potassium is a recognized labeled effect in some patients, particularly with renal impairment, and aliskiren can also raise potassium through renin-angiotensin blockade. Combined use may add to hyperkalemia risk, and both can affect volume status and renal function.
Ce que signifie cette interaction, en termes simples
Aliskiren and Canagliflozin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Aliskiren belongs to Cardiovascular; Canagliflozin belongs to Endocrine.
Pourquoi elle survient
Additive effects on potassium: aliskiren reduces aldosterone-mediated potassium excretion while canagliflozin may modestly increase potassium via volume and hemodynamic effects.
Conduite à tenir
Monitor serum potassium and renal function after starting the combination, especially in patients with reduced eGFR or diabetes. Reassess if potassium rises or renal function declines.
