Résumé
Alvimopan is a peripherally acting mu-opioid antagonist, and patients who have taken opioids for more than a week before starting it are more sensitive to its effects. They may develop abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Short-term opioid exposure, as in the postoperative setting, is the intended use.
