Résumé
Oral tranexamic acid is antifibrinolytic and mestranol, a prodrug of ethinylestradiol, is prothrombotic. Together they raise the risk of venous and arterial thrombosis, and oral tranexamic acid labeling contraindicates use with combined hormonal contraceptives.
Ce que signifie cette interaction, en termes simples
Mestranol and Tranexamic acid are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Pourquoi elle survient
Additive prothrombotic effects of fibrinolysis inhibition and estrogen-induced increases in clotting factors.
Conduite à tenir
Avoid the combination; use non-hormonal or progestin-only contraception while taking tranexamic acid, or choose another heavy-bleeding treatment.
