Résumé
Tranylcypromine is an irreversible nonselective MAO inhibitor that markedly raises serotonin availability. Adding a 5-HT3 antagonist such as palonosetron may contribute to serotonin syndrome, though reports for palonosetron are limited.
Ce que signifie cette interaction, en termes simples
Palonosetron and Tranylcypromine can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Palonosetron belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Tranylcypromine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Pourquoi elle survient
Additive serotonergic effects on top of irreversible MAO inhibition; the contribution of 5-HT3 antagonists is not firmly established.
Conduite à tenir
Prefer an antiemetic from another class where possible. If palonosetron is needed, monitor closely for serotonin syndrome after administration.
