Összefoglaló

Linezolid is a weak reversible nonselective MAO inhibitor, and combining it with duloxetine can cause serotonin syndrome. Features include agitation, confusion, tremor, clonus, hyperreflexia, sweating and fever, and the condition can be life threatening. Duloxetine labeling restricts its use with linezolid except in emergencies where benefits outweigh the risk.

Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően

Duloxetine and Linezolid are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Duloxetine belongs to Central Nervous System; Linezolid belongs to Anti Bacterial.

Bizonyítékszint: High

Miért jön létre

Linezolid inhibits MAO and reduces serotonin breakdown, while duloxetine blocks serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake, producing excessive serotonergic stimulation.

Teendő

Avoid the combination and choose an alternative antibiotic where possible. If linezolid is urgently required, stop duloxetine and monitor for serotonin toxicity for about 2 weeks or until 24 hours after the last linezolid dose, whichever comes first.
