Come agisce
Binds with high affinity to the 5-HT1F receptor and presumably acts through agonist effects at this receptor; the precise mechanism is unknown.

Acute treatment of migraine with or without aura: 50 mg, 100 mg, or 200 mg orally as needed; no more than one dose in 24 hours

- Unsafe No adequate human data. In animals it caused fetal abnormalities, fetal and pup deaths and lower fetal weight, in rabbits at exposures below human levels. EU label: not recommended in pregnancy. Prefer a better-studied migraine drug (e.g. sumatriptan); a pregnancy registry exists.
- Allattamento
- Unknown No human milk data; rat milk levels were about 3 times plasma. US label: weigh benefits. EU label: decide; avoiding breastfeeding for 24 hours after a dose minimises exposure. LactMed: not a reason to stop for an older infant, but another drug may be preferred for a newborn or preterm infant.

- Driving impairment: do not drive or operate machinery for at least 8 hours after each dose; patients unable to comply should not take it.
- CNS depression, including dizziness and sedation; use caution with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
- Serotonin syndrome reported; discontinue if suspected.
