Per cosa si usa
Come agisce
Stimulates alpha receptors to vasoconstrict vessels with low vascular tone; vasodilates hypertonic vessels; at higher doses competes for alpha receptor to block it
Dose abituale nell'adulto (sintesi del foglio illustrativo)
Migraine: 2 mg SL followed by 1-2 mg q30min until attack abated; not to exceed 6 mg/day and no more than 10 mg/week OR
Gravidanza e allattamento
- Gravidanza
- Unsafe Contraindicated in pregnancy: it stimulates the uterus and constricts uterine blood vessels, risking miscarriage and reduced fetal blood flow and growth. Use other migraine treatments.
- Allattamento
- Unsafe Passes into milk and may cause vomiting, diarrhoea, weak pulse and unstable blood pressure in the infant; it may also lower milk supply. Most authorities consider it contraindicated while breastfeeding.
Effetti indesiderati segnalati
- Angina
- Abnormal heart valve findings
- Arrhythmia
- Vascular spasm
- Vasoconstriction
Chi deve prestare attenzione
- Ergotism is manifested by intense arterial vasoconstriction, producing signs and symptoms of peripheral vascular ischemia
- If the condition is allowed to progress untreated, gangrene can result; while most cases of ergotism associated with ergotamine treatment result from frank overdosage
