Sintesi
Oral aminolevulinic acid causes protoporphyrin accumulation and marked photosensitivity, and isotretinoin can further increase skin sensitivity to light. Combined exposure raises the risk of severe phototoxic skin reactions.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Aminolevulinic acid and Isotretinoin can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Aminolevulinic acid belongs to Miscellaneous; Isotretinoin belongs to Dermatology.
Perché avviene
Additive photosensitization from a photosensitizing agent and a retinoid.
Cosa fare
Avoid giving isotretinoin around the perioperative aminolevulinic acid period where possible, and enforce strict light protection as labeled. Consider deferring isotretinoin until photosensitivity risk has passed.
