Sintesi
Carbimazole treats hyperthyroidism and can overshoot into hypothyroidism if the dose is excessive. Hypothyroidism is a recognised risk factor for statin-associated myopathy and rhabdomyolysis, so muscle toxicity from rosuvastatin may be more likely during periods of low thyroid function. The interaction is indirect and depends on thyroid status.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Carbimazole and Rosuvastatin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Carbimazole belongs to Endocrine; Rosuvastatin belongs to Cardiovascular.
Perché avviene
Pharmacodynamic and indirect: drug-induced hypothyroidism predisposes to statin myotoxicity. No direct CYP or transporter interaction is expected.
Cosa fare
Check thyroid function before starting or increasing rosuvastatin and aim for euthyroidism. Monitor thyroid function regularly after carbimazole dose changes and adjust carbimazole if TSH rises.
