Sintesi
Sodium picosulfate is a prodrug that requires colonic bacteria to be converted to its active laxative form. Antibacterials can suppress this flora and may lead to a weaker bowel-cleansing effect before colonoscopy.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Cefotaxime and Sodium picosulfate / magnesium oxide / anhydrous citric acid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Perché avviene
Antibiotic suppression of colonic bacteria reduces conversion of sodium picosulfate to its active metabolite.
