Sintesi
Cephaloridine is a markedly nephrotoxic cephalosporin that is no longer in general use, and loop diuretics were reported to increase its renal toxicity. The combination could cause acute tubular injury, particularly with volume depletion.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Cephaloridine and Furosemide can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Perché avviene
Additive proximal tubular toxicity, with diuretic-induced volume depletion increasing renal cephaloridine accumulation.
Cosa fare
Avoid the combination and choose a less nephrotoxic antibiotic. If it cannot be avoided, monitor renal function closely and maintain hydration.
