Sintesi
There is no direct interaction, but excessive polyethylene glycol use that causes persistent diarrhea can lead to hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia. Electrolyte disturbance is a recognised risk factor for QT prolongation and torsades de pointes with domperidone. The concern is conditional and relevant mainly to high-risk patients.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Domperidone and Polyethylene Glycol 3350 can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Perché avviene
Pharmacodynamic and indirect: laxative-induced fluid and electrolyte loss lowers potassium and magnesium, which potentiates the QT-prolonging effect of domperidone. No pharmacokinetic interaction is expected.
Cosa fare
Use PEG at the lowest effective dose and stop or reduce it if diarrhea develops. Check and correct potassium and magnesium in patients with persistent diarrhea who take domperidone.
