Postsynaptic serotonin-1A (5HT-1A) receptor agonist and 5HT-2A receptor antagonist; also elicits moderate antagonist activities at the 5-HT2B, 5-HT2C, and dopamine D4 receptors.

- Unknown No studies in pregnant women. In rats and rabbits, fetal harm occurred only at more than 15 times human exposure with maternal toxicity. It is for premenopausal women with low sexual desire; stop if pregnancy occurs.

- Unsafe Not known whether it passes into human milk; it does into rat milk. LactMed: high protein binding suggests low milk levels. US label: not recommended while breastfeeding because of possible serious effects, including sedation, in the infant.

- Coadministration with moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors increases flibanserin concentrations, which can cause severe hypotension and syncope.
- Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, reactions consistent with angioedema (eg, swelling of the face, lips, and mouth), pruritus, and urticaria reported.
- Flibanserin may increase blood concentrations of P-gp substrates (eg, digoxin, sirolimus).
