Resumo
Tranexamic acid blocks fibrinolysis and therefore directly opposes the clot-dissolving action of alteplase. This can reduce thrombolytic efficacy, and it is also relevant that tranexamic acid is used to reverse thrombolytic-related bleeding.
O que esta interação significa em palavras simples
Alteplase and Tranexamic acid can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Alteplase belongs to Cardiovascular; Tranexamic acid belongs to Cardiovascular.
Por que acontece
Pharmacodynamic antagonism: tranexamic acid blocks lysine binding sites on plasminogen, preventing plasmin formation and fibrin degradation.
O que fazer
Avoid concurrent use when thrombolysis is intended. Use tranexamic acid only deliberately to treat life-threatening alteplase-related bleeding.
