Resumo
Transdermal buprenorphine provides continuous opioid exposure with sedative and respiratory depressant potential. Adding scopolamine, which is itself sedating, may cause additive drowsiness, confusion and respiratory depression.
O que esta interação significa em palavras simples
Buprenorphine transdermal and Scopolamine can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Por que acontece
Additive CNS depression from opioid partial agonism and central antimuscarinic activity.
O que fazer
Prefer a non-sedating alternative to scopolamine where possible, such as another antiemetic. If both are needed, monitor sedation and respiratory rate, especially at initiation and dose changes.
O que perguntar ao farmacêutico
- Does the benefit of taking both outweigh the risk in my case?
- Do I need any blood test, ECG or other check while on both?
