Summary

Antithymocyte globulin is routinely combined with cyclosporine in transplantation and aplastic anemia protocols, but the combined immunosuppression raises the risk of infections and lymphoproliferative disorders. Cyclosporine adds nephrotoxicity and hypertension.

What this interaction means in plain words

Anti-thymocyte and Cyclosporine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Evidence level: High

Why it happens

Additive immunosuppression from T-cell depletion and calcineurin inhibition.

What to do

Use only within established protocols, with antimicrobial prophylaxis as indicated. Monitor cyclosporine trough levels, renal function and signs of infection.
