Summary

Apalutamide induces UGT1A1 and other enzymes, lowering cabotegravir concentrations, particularly with long-acting injectable cabotegravir. This risks loss of virologic response and integrase resistance.

What this interaction means in plain words

Apalutamide and Cabotegravir are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Apalutamide belongs to Endocrine; Cabotegravir belongs to Anti Virals.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Apalutamide induces UGT1A1 (and UGT1A9), increasing cabotegravir glucuronidation.

What to do

Do not coadminister; use an alternative antiandrogen or antiretroviral. Monitor HIV RNA if exposure occurred.

What to ask your pharmacist
