Summary
Ivosidenib induces CYP3A4 and may lower aripiprazole concentrations, reducing antipsychotic control. Ivosidenib also prolongs the QT interval, and aripiprazole may add a small additional effect.
What this interaction means in plain words
Aripiprazole and Ivosidenib can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Aripiprazole belongs to Central Nervous System; Ivosidenib belongs to Oncology.
Why it happens
CYP3A4 induction by ivosidenib increases aripiprazole clearance, together with additive QT prolongation.
What to do
Monitor for loss of psychiatric response and consider increasing the aripiprazole dose. Monitor ECG and electrolytes during treatment.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Does the benefit of taking both outweigh the risk in my case?
- Do I need any blood test, ECG or other check while on both?
