Summary

Anticholinergic drugs may add to the effects of botulinum toxin, which blocks acetylcholine release. This may increase systemic anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth and neuromuscular weakness; type B toxin commonly causes dry mouth on its own.

What this interaction means in plain words

Atropine and Rimabotulinumtoxinb can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Atropine belongs to Miscellaneous; Rimabotulinumtoxinb belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive cholinergic blockade: botulinum toxin inhibits presynaptic acetylcholine release while atropine blocks muscarinic receptors.

What to do

Monitor for excessive weakness, swallowing or breathing difficulty and systemic anticholinergic effects after injection. Avoid unnecessary additional anticholinergics around treatment.
