Summary
Low molecular weight heparins can suppress aldosterone secretion, and ACE inhibitors also lower aldosterone activity. Together they may increase the risk of hyperkalemia, especially in patients with renal impairment or diabetes or with prolonged heparin therapy.
What this interaction means in plain words
Benazepril and Enoxaparin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Benazepril belongs to Cardiovascular; Enoxaparin belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive suppression of aldosterone-mediated potassium excretion.
What to do
Monitor serum potassium, particularly in patients with renal impairment, diabetes or therapy lasting more than several days. Treat hyperkalemia if it occurs and reassess the need for each drug.
What to ask your pharmacist
