What this interaction means in plain words

Betaxolol and Desflurane can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Betaxolol belongs to Cardiovascular; Desflurane belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive cardiovascular depression from volatile anesthetic vasodilation and beta-1 blockade.

What to do

Generally continue the beta-blocker perioperatively and inform the anesthesia team. Monitor blood pressure and heart rate and have vasopressors or anticholinergics available.
