Summary

Both drugs can prolong the QT interval, so giving them together may add to the risk of torsades de pointes. The risk is greater with transdermal or high-dose buprenorphine, electrolyte disturbances or underlying cardiac disease.

What this interaction means in plain words

Buprenorphine and Dasatinib can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Buprenorphine belongs to Musculoskeletal; Dasatinib belongs to Oncology.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive pharmacodynamic QT prolongation through cardiac repolarization effects (hERG potassium channel inhibition).

What to do

Obtain a baseline ECG and correct potassium and magnesium before combining. Repeat the ECG after initiation, and consider an alternative if the QTc exceeds 500 ms.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
