Summary
Corticosteroids combined with NSAIDs increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding. Celecoxib carries a lower GI risk than non-selective NSAIDs, but the risk is still raised with systemic steroids. Fluid retention may also be additive.
What this interaction means in plain words
Celecoxib and Triamcinolone can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Celecoxib belongs to Musculoskeletal; Triamcinolone belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Additive gastrointestinal mucosal injury from corticosteroid effects and NSAID inhibition of prostaglandin-mediated protection.
What to do
Use the lowest effective doses for the shortest time and consider gastroprotection with a proton pump inhibitor in higher-risk patients. Monitor for GI bleeding symptoms.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
