What this interaction means in plain words

Ciltacabtagene autoleucel and Gemcitabine can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.

Ciltacabtagene autoleucel belongs to Miscellaneous; Gemcitabine belongs to Oncology.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive immunosuppression and myelosuppression; cytotoxic chemotherapy may also reduce the function or expansion of CAR-T cells.

What to do

Avoid chemotherapy in the washout window before leukapheresis and during the period around CAR-T infusion except for planned lymphodepletion. Monitor blood counts and infection closely if later chemotherapy is required.
