Summary

Heparins, including low molecular weight heparins, can suppress aldosterone secretion, which may raise serum potassium. Combined with the angiotensin receptor blocker telmisartan, which also reduces aldosterone effect, the risk of hyperkalemia increases, particularly in renal impairment or diabetes.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dalteparin and Telmisartan-amlodipine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Dalteparin belongs to Cardiovascular; Telmisartan-amlodipine belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Both agents reduce aldosterone-mediated potassium excretion, producing additive hyperkalemia risk.

What to do

Monitor serum potassium and renal function, especially if dalteparin is given for more than a few days. Reassess therapy if potassium rises.
