Summary

Pimozide has some anticholinergic activity, so combining it with dicyclomine adds to constipation, dry mouth, urinary retention and confusion. Pimozide's QT prolongation is not affected by dicyclomine, but tachycardia from anticholinergics is undesirable in these patients.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dicyclomine and Pimozide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Dicyclomine belongs to Respiratory; Pimozide belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive antimuscarinic effects; possible altered absorption from slowed GI motility.

What to do

Monitor for anticholinergic effects and heart rate, and use the lowest effective dicyclomine dose. Ensure ECG monitoring appropriate for pimozide continues.
