Etodolac can reduce the antihypertensive effect of eprosartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Together with a diuretic and angiotensin receptor blocker, NSAIDs raise the risk of acute kidney injury and hyperkalemia, particularly in elderly or volume-depleted patients.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Etodolac can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Etodolac belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
NSAID inhibition of renal prostaglandin synthesis causes sodium and water retention and lowers renal perfusion, opposing antihypertensive effects and impairing glomerular autoregulation.
What to do
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time and ensure hydration. Monitor blood pressure, serum creatinine and potassium.
What to ask your pharmacist
