What this interaction means in plain words
Fleroxacin and Insulin glargine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Fluoroquinolones may stimulate pancreatic beta-cell insulin release by blocking ATP-sensitive potassium channels, adding to the effect of exogenous insulin.
What to do
Monitor blood glucose closely during and shortly after the quinolone course, and adjust the insulin glargine dose as needed. Educate the patient about the symptoms of hypoglycemia.
