What this interaction means in plain words

Fluoxetine and Meloxicam can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Fluoxetine belongs to Central Nervous System; Meloxicam belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: High

Why it happens

Additive platelet dysfunction and mucosal injury, plus CYP2C9 inhibition by fluoxetine reducing meloxicam clearance.

What to do

Avoid in patients at high GI risk or add a proton pump inhibitor. Monitor for bleeding signs and use the lowest effective meloxicam dose.
