Summary
Ofloxacin and formoterol can both prolong the QTc interval, so combined use may raise the risk of ventricular arrhythmia, especially with hypokalemia. Fluoroquinolones together with corticosteroids also increase tendinopathy risk, although this is small with inhaled mometasone.
What this interaction means in plain words
Formoterol-mometasone and Ofloxacin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Formoterol-mometasone belongs to Respiratory; Ofloxacin belongs to Anti Bacterial.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation, plus additive tendon toxicity of fluoroquinolones and corticosteroids.
What to do
Consider an ECG and correct potassium and magnesium in patients with QT risk factors. Advise patients to stop ofloxacin and seek care if tendon pain develops.
