Summary
Oteseconazole inhibits BCRP, a transporter involved in glyburide disposition, so glyburide concentrations may rise. This could increase the glucose-lowering effect and the risk of hypoglycemia. Oteseconazole has a very long half-life, so the effect may persist after the course ends.
What this interaction means in plain words
Glibenclamide and Oteseconazole can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Glibenclamide belongs to Endocrine; Oteseconazole belongs to Anti Fungals.
Why it happens
Oteseconazole inhibits BCRP, reducing efflux of glyburide.
What to do
Monitor blood glucose closely during and for some weeks after oteseconazole therapy. Reduce the glyburide dose if low glucose readings occur.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
