Summary

Corticosteroids have some mineralocorticoid activity and promote potassium loss, which adds to thiazide-induced hypokalemia. Triamcinolone has little mineralocorticoid effect, so the risk is modest, but fluid retention may also blunt blood pressure control. The ACE inhibitor partly offsets potassium loss.

What this interaction means in plain words

Hydrochlorothiazide-lisinopril and Triamcinolone acetonide injectable have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive renal potassium wasting; corticosteroid sodium retention may counteract the antihypertensive and diuretic effect.

What to do

Check serum potassium and blood pressure if repeated or high-dose corticosteroid injections are given, and replace potassium as needed.
