Summary
Glucocorticoids such as hydrocortisone can alter pituitary growth hormone secretion. This may distort the result of the macimorelin growth hormone stimulation test and lead to misdiagnosis of growth hormone deficiency.
What this interaction means in plain words
Hydrocortisone and Macimorelin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Hydrocortisone belongs to Endocrine; Macimorelin belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Pharmacodynamic: corticosteroids modulate pituitary GH release and so interfere with the stimulation test response.
What to do
Where clinically possible, allow an adequate washout of hydrocortisone before macimorelin testing, or interpret the result with caution if replacement therapy cannot be stopped. Do not withdraw replacement in adrenal insufficiency without specialist guidance.
What to ask your pharmacist
