Summary

Both drugs can suppress bone marrow or damage blood cells, so using them together may increase the risk of anemia and other cytopenias. Primaquine can also cause hemolysis, especially in G6PD deficiency, which could add to chemotherapy-related anemia.

What this interaction means in plain words

Ifosfamide and Primaquine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Ifosfamide belongs to Oncology; Primaquine belongs to Anti Parasitic.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive hematologic toxicity: myelosuppression from ifosfamide and oxidative hemolysis from primaquine.

What to do

Check G6PD status before primaquine and monitor complete blood counts regularly during co-therapy. Delay or adjust primaquine if significant hemolysis or cytopenia develops.
