Summary

Palifermin is a keratinocyte growth factor used to reduce mucositis after cytotoxic chemotherapy, and its labeling advises separating it from cytotoxic chemotherapy because it can worsen mucositis when given close to it. Ipilimumab is an immunotherapy rather than cytotoxic chemotherapy and does not cause mucositis by the same mechanism, so the concern does not clearly apply.

What this interaction means in plain words

Ipilimumab and Palifermin have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Ipilimumab belongs to Oncology; Palifermin belongs to Miscellaneous.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

No established mechanism; the timing caution relates to proliferating epithelial cells exposed to cytotoxic agents, which ipilimumab is not.

What to do

No specific action needed beyond awareness. If given alongside cytotoxic chemotherapy, follow the palifermin timing recommendations relative to that chemotherapy.
