What this interaction means in plain words
Irbesartan and Meloxicam can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Irbesartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Meloxicam belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
Meloxicam reduces vasodilatory renal prostaglandins while irbesartan blocks efferent arteriolar tone, lowering glomerular filtration and potassium excretion.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, serum creatinine and potassium after starting and periodically. Ensure hydration and limit NSAID dose and duration.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
