For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Summary

Ospemifene is metabolized by CYP3A4 and CYP2C19, both of which isoniazid can inhibit to a modest degree. Exposure to ospemifene may therefore rise somewhat, which could increase estrogen-agonist adverse effects such as hot flushes or thromboembolic risk.

What this interaction means in plain words

Isoniazid and Ospemifene can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Isoniazid belongs to Anti Bacterial; Ospemifene belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Inhibition of CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 by isoniazid reduces ospemifene clearance.

What to do

Monitor for adverse effects of ospemifene during isoniazid therapy. Consider whether the ospemifene is still needed if the isoniazid course is prolonged.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
