Summary

Isoniazid has weak monoamine oxidase inhibiting activity, and zolmitriptan is partly metabolised by MAO-A, so exposure may rise. Serotonin toxicity is theoretical and unlikely at usual doses.

What this interaction means in plain words

Isoniazid and Zolmitriptan have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Isoniazid belongs to Anti Bacterial; Zolmitriptan belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Weak MAO inhibition by isoniazid may reduce zolmitriptan metabolism.

What to do

No routine change is needed; counsel the patient to report agitation, tremor, sweating or marked headache worsening and keep to the lowest effective zolmitriptan dose.
